The amazing piece of Star Trek history - unreleased interactive DVD movie "Star Trek: Borg" made only for Japanese market!
We thought the existence of this DVD was a myth, until we actually got a copy in our hands. It looks and feels like a lost Star Trek: The Next Generation episode. At several points throughout the movie, you are given multiple choices to change the outcome with the use of a remote control. John de Lancie is in his funniest role of Q ever! It’s the only time for Q to appear as a Borg. The movie is directed by Star Trek regular James L. Conway and features original score by Dennis McCarthy. It was filmed on Star Trek sets using actual props, scenery and costumes.
This is not a screen capture of the game nor a fan edit, but the official Japan only interactive DVD. Star Trek: Borg was released in 1996 by Simon & Schuster as a computer game for PC and Mac. In Japan it was supposed to be released by DataHouse Beagle as first ever interactive DVD movie in 2000, but was put on indefinite hold. It has 4:3 aspect ratio and 640x480 video, much better quality than computer release of the game. The language is switchable between English and Japanese. Comes with a booklet. The disc and case look brand new, the interactive movie plays fine.
Please keep in mind it’s marked as region 2 (Japan, Europe) and MIGHT NOT work on American DVD player. Supposedly it’s not region locked, but we have no way to check for sure. It plays fine on European DVD player and Playstation 3, but doesn't play on computers for some reason (must be due to the interactive nature of the movie and lack of new operating system compatibility).
Story: In the midst of a Borg invasion 10 years after the Battle of Wolf 359, Starfleet Cadet Furlong (you!) is given an opportunity by Q to go back in time and prevent his father's death in the historic battle. Q sends Furlong to the USS Righteous, his father's Excelsior class starship, just before the Battle of Wolf 359. Q gives Furlong control of the ship's security officer's body, allowing him to change history. Since he is Bijani he has the ability to go into a trance which allows him to complete jobs without pain. Q takes over the role of Dr. Quint, whose personality is similar to Q’s…
